Summer Solstice
Jun 16, 2022
The summer solstice, one of the twenty-four solar terms, is the intersection node when the sun travels to 90° ecliptic longitude, usually on June 21-22 of the Gregorian calendar. On the summer solstice, the position of the sun directly hitting the ground reaches the northernmost point of the year, almost directly hitting the Tropic of Cancer. At this time, the daylight hours in the northern hemisphere are the longest in the year. For the Tropic of Cancer and its north, the summer solstice is also the highest day of the year at noon. The northern hemisphere gets the most solar radiation on this day, nearly twice as much as the southern hemisphere.
