1. Select the right fittings

Before you start connecting PEX compression fittings, choose the correct fittings for your project. There are various types of PEX compression fittings available, including elbows, tees, couplings, adaptors, and valves. Each fitting serves a specific purpose, so make sure you select the one that matches your needs. Ensure that the fitting is compatible with your PEX pipe size, as well.

2. Cut the PEX pipe

Measure the length of PEX pipe that you need to connect to the fitting and cut it using a PEX cutter or a hacksaw. Ensure the cut is straight and clean with no burrs, as burrs can damage the compression fitting. You can use a deburring tool to remove any burrs or rough edges.

3. Prepare the PEX pipe

The next step is to prepare the PEX pipe for compression fitting installation. Firstly, ensure that the end of the pipe is clean and dry. You can use a wire brush or sandpaper to clean the pipe's outer surface. Ensure that the pipe is free from any debris or dirt.

4. Insert the compression ring onto the PEX pipe

Slide the compression ring over the end of the PEX pipe until it's about 1/8 inch from the end. Ensure the ring is straight and aligned with the pipe's end.

5. Insert the fitting onto the PEX pipe

Insert the fitting into the PEX pipe, pushing it gently until it stops. Ensure that it's aligned straight. Once you have inserted the fitting, slide the compression ring over the fitting's tubing barb or nipple.

6. Tighten the compression nut

Lastly, tighten the compression nut over the compression ring, ensuring that it's tight enough to compress the ring against the pipe and the fitting. Ensure you do not overtighten the nut, as this can damage the compression ring, the fitting, or the PEX pipe. Check for leaks or drips.
