How to correctly install PPR fittings
Nov 30, 2023
Correct installation of PPR fittings is crucial for the longevity and effectiveness of a plumbing system. Here are the key steps and considerations for proper installation:
**1. Cutting the Pipe**:
- Begin by cutting the PPR pipe cleanly and squarely using a sharp, suitable pipe cutter. Ensure the cut is straight to avoid any leakage.
**2. Cleaning and Marking**:
- Clean the ends of the pipe and the inside of the fitting. Mark the depth of insertion on the pipe to ensure that it is fully inserted into the fitting during welding.
**3. Heating the Pipe and Fitting**:
- Use a PPR welding machine set at the correct temperature (around 260°C). Insert the pipe and the fitting into the welding dies of the machine. Ensure that the pipe and fitting are straight when inserted.
**4. Fusion Time**:
- Heat both the pipe and the fitting for the recommended duration based on their diameter. This allows the material to reach the melting point.
**5. Joining the Pipe and Fitting**:
- Quickly remove the pipe and fitting from the welder and join them together immediately. Push the pipe into the fitting up to the marked depth and hold them in place for a few seconds to ensure a proper bond.
**6. Cooling**:
- Allow the joint to cool for a specified period before handling or applying pressure. Cooling times vary depending on the size of the pipe and fitting.
**7. Inspection**:
- After cooling, inspect the joint to ensure it is even and there are no gaps or misalignments.
**8. Pressure Testing**:
- Once the installation is complete, conduct a pressure test to ensure there are no leaks in the system.
Remember, the key to a successful installation is precision and attention to detail. Always follow the manufacturer's guidelines for specific heating and cooling times, and ensure the use of proper tools and equipment.
